What are the © copyright symbols on the larger images on the site?
Larger images (above thumbnail size) on this site are watermarked and have a feint pattern overlay incorporating a copyright symbol : ©. All prints ordered from this site are completely free of any markings within the image area. The watermarking is for the security of images on the internet only.
Which cameras were used for the images on this site?
Nikon cameras have been utilised throughout.
For digital originals, initially two iterations of the classic Coolpix design: Coolpix 990 and Coolpix 4500. More recently a D200 SLR has been employed succeeding an earlier D70 model. Images from these SLR models have been captured exclusively in RAW format for optimal quality and maximal flexibility in use of the image.
Most of the images captured originally on transparency film were made using a Nikon N70.
Some of the images here seem to be very blurry. Is this intentional?
Usually yes!
Almost all the images here were taken using a hand-held rather than tripod-mounted camera. Many of the nighttime images of London for example had exposure times of several seconds and in the case of some, more than 10 seconds, producing characteristic noise and colour shift in the digital image - and blur from camera shake. For the most part efforts were made to minimise camera shake, but sometimes this was exploited for aesthetic purposes. The success or otherwise of this approach is in the eye of the beholder...
Can I license these pictures to use elsewhere?
Yes, almost certainly.

Original image files can be supplied. File formats are noted in the image descriptions. For more recent images the format is RAW which allows considerable post-capture image manipulation such as exposure compensation and shadow and highlight enhancement if required. Earlier images were all captured at the highest resolution and the highest quality JPEG format that the camera would allow.
